| Welcome to the Kidzup Kitchen!
"Always be prepared" is my motto in the kitchen. The more prepared you are, the easier it is to make fabulous food anytime. Before beginning any recipe, make sure that you have all the ingredients you need. Make a shopping list for the items that you are missing. This way you won't waste food or have to make extra trips to the grocery store for things you forgot. Know what you are eating. By reading the package labels carefully, you will able to cook and eat healthier. Try to avoid foods with too much fat or sugar contents. Pick your fresh fruits and vegetables carefully. You can actually smell the flavor! Fruit is best soft but not bruised or mushy. Vegetables should look crisp, not wilted or full of spots. Beef must look bright red, not gray, brown or smelly. Most meat, eggs, milk cheese and other dairy products have an expiration date on them. This tells you how long you have left until they are not fresh anymore. Try and buy foods that will have the longest expiration date in your refrigerator!
Always follow the family kitchen rules. When you see "*" beside a recipe, it means you have to have adult supervision. If in doubt, ask for help from an adult anyway. Here are ten safe rules that are easy to follow: 1) Tie your hair back, roll up your sleeves, and wear an apron. 2) Make sure to wash your hands and work surfaces with hot soapy water before and after cooking 3) Use oven mitts to take anything out of the oven, microwave or off the stove. 4) Carry knives by the handle, blades pointing down. Never leave them near the edge of the counter or table. 5) Pot handles should always be turned towards the wall. 6) Remove pot lids carefully, tilting them away from you so the steam won't scald you. 7) Keep fingers out of the bowl and utensils away from the blades of electric mixers. 8) Never plug in appliances with wet hands. When you are finished using them, shut them off. 9) Clean up after yourself constantly. When you have finished cooking or baking, your kitchen should be clean and tidy! 10) HAVE FUN Cookie Dough Utensils: Preheated oven at 350 F Directions: Put the butter, sugar and corn syrup in a saucepan Cook over medium heat, stirring, until the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved.
